Baltabek Ersalimov, a distinguished worker of Kazakhstan, an honorary citizen of the city of Semey and Abai district, a philologist, ethnographer, local historian, and journalist, has passed away at the age of 86.
The news of his death was announced by the press service of the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
"The Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan expresses its condolences to the family and loved ones of the local historian Baltabek Ersalimov," the statement reads.
Baltabek Ersalimov was the great-grandnephew of the renowned poet-enlightener Abay Kunanbayev. He was born on February 28, 1938, in Semey. Starting his career early in the region, he worked as a courier at the newspaper "Priirtyshskaya Pravda" while studying during the day. Later, he graduated from the journalism faculty of Kazakh State University and pursued a career as a journalist.
Ersalimov actively promoted the works of Kunanbayev and was one of the founders and leaders of the Abay Foundation, making a significant contribution to the relaunch of the "Abay" journal.
Additionally, Baltabek Ersalimov was a member of the Union of Journalists of Kazakhstan and was honored with the medals "Enbek Ardageri," "Tynga 50 Zhyly," and the Order of "Qurmet."
It was previously reported that on the night of April 4, the well-known Kazakhstani journalist Gadilbek Shalakhmetov passed away.
