Uzbek President Initiates Construction of New Power Stations in Namangan Region

in Economy / Uzbekistan - by

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev participated in the groundbreaking ceremony for new power stations in the Namangan region. Currently, Namangan has generating capacities of 913 megawatts, with electricity consumption increasing by 24% over the past three years.

To meet the growing demand, three projects totaling $1.1 billion and a capacity of 1228 MW were designed for the region, including a cascade of hydroelectric power stations and two solar power stations.

In the Uychi district, Uzbekhydroenergo will build a cascade of 6 hydroelectric power stations on the Naryn River for $434 million, generating 1 billion kWh of electricity annually. This will save 310 million cubic meters of gas and power 430,000 households.

The hydroelectric power stations are expected to be constructed using equipment and technologies made in Uzbekistan. Additionally, Hyper Partners from Germany will build a 500 MW solar power station in the Pap district, while Tepelen Group Holding from the UAE will construct another 500 MW solar power station in Pape.

These projects will increase Namangan's generating capacity to 2141 MW, producing 7.8 billion kWh of electricity annually, covering the region's needs and exporting the remaining 30% to Andijan and Fergana regions.

President Mirziyoyev initiated the construction by pressing a symbolic button at the ceremony. Plans for energy storage systems with a total capacity of 200 MW in Pap and Uychi districts by 2025 will ensure stable energy supply during peak consumption periods. Moreover, 2.6 GW of power will be connected to the grid from the construction of 14 solar and wind stations this year.
