Uzbekistan and Asian Development Bank (ADB) have signed a memorandum of understanding to implement a country program for the years 2025-2027, which envisages projects totaling $3.5 billion. The Ministry of Investments, Industry, and Trade announced this development.
The signing took place during the 57th annual meeting of the ADB Board of Governors held in Tbilisi, Georgia on May 4-5 under the theme "Bridge to the Future." The Uzbek delegation was led by Deputy Prime Minister Jamshid Khojaev.
The document was signed by Deputy Minister of Investments, Industry, and Trade Khurram Teshabaev and ADB Director General for Central and West Asia Evgeny Zhukov.
The projects included in the program align with the "Uzbekistan-2030" Development Strategy, as noted by the ministry. The exact number of projects has not been specified.
Responding to a query from the media, the ADB office in Tashkent stated that the bank and the Uzbek government have tentatively identified development projects for the coming years, with medium-term targets being analyzed and updated annually.
"The bank's objective is to support the financing, knowledge, and innovative solutions for development projects in Uzbekistan in areas such as energy, transportation, water supply, urban infrastructure, agriculture, natural resource management, finance, public sector and governance, education, and healthcare," emphasized the ADB.
The previous country program involved implementing 27 projects worth $2.8 billion between 2022 and 2024.
Uzbekistan became a member of the ADB in 1995, with the bank's representation in Uzbekistan established in 1998. The total funds provided by the ADB to Uzbekistan through sovereign operations have reached $12 billion. In 2023, the ADB allocated 6 loans and 1 grant for 4 sovereign projects and 2 programs.
