in Economy / Uzbekistan - by

President of Uzbekistan signed a decree on March 25th regarding additional measures to enhance the financing system of public transport, as announced by the Ministry of Justice press service.

According to the document, by June 1, 2024, incentivizing tariffs will be implemented for using electronic payment systems for public transport fares.

Furthermore, by the same date, a Unified Intelligent Public Transport Management System will be introduced to monitor passenger flow on regular bus routes in Tashkent. The system will also oversee drivers' performance, revenue collection, monitor the technical condition of buses, and record traffic violations in designated lanes.

To facilitate settlements with carriers and accumulate proceeds from fare payments, special funds established in local transport administrations without legal entity formation will be transferred to the territorial management system of the Ministry of Economy and Finance.

Locally, "Groups for managing special fund resources, analyzing route operations, and monitoring revenue" will be established as state institutions under the management of economic and financial authorities.

It is worth noting that public transport fares were last updated in November 2023. The price of a single trip increased from 1400 to 1700 soums for card payments and bank transfers, and up to 2000 soums for cash payments. Discounts were also introduced for transfers within an hour, as well as daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly fares.
