The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Uzbekistan, under Minister Pulat Bobojonov's order on March 31, has approved an increase in fees for vehicle registration and re-registration, including trailers. The Public Safety Department (PSD) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs announced the changes on March 30 under the headline "Driving an electric car will now be even more affordable," but did not specify the approving document. When seeking clarification from the PSD's press service, "Gazeta.uz" did not receive a response.

Currently, the registration and re-registration fees for all vehicles and trailers amount to 10% of the base calculation value, which is 34,000 Uzbekistani som. Starting from April 1, the fees for registering and re-registering electric cars, motorcycles, and trailers will increase by 15 times to 1.5 BRV, equivalent to 510,000 som. For all other vehicles, the fee will rise by 68.4 times to 6.84 BRV, or 2.32 million som.

Five months ago, on November 1, the fee for issuing license plates for cars increased by 2.3 times to 3.5 BRV (1.15 million som). The fee for issuing license plates for motorcycles and replacing vehicle registration plates also increased. However, the price changes were announced in advance back on August 10, two months and twenty days before. This time, the order was issued just a day before the fee hike.

From April to December last year, the country saw 1.34 million car sales, generating over 45.5 billion som in revenue for the budget. If the same pace is maintained in the remaining months of 2024, revenues are projected to exceed 3 trillion som. In Kazakhstan, vehicle registration costs 0.25 MRP (923 tenge or 26,000 som). In Russia, the state duty for car registration depends on whether the owner is getting a new license plate or a new vehicle registration certificate (VRC). Typically, the service costs 500 rubles (68.1 thousand som), while obtaining a new license plate costs 2000 rubles (272.4 thousand som) and a VRC costs 800 rubles (108.9 thousand som).
