in Economy / Uzbekistan - by

In a recent session of the capital's parliament, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev highlighted the importance of developing industry and trade through vertical growth of existing infrastructure in the limited space of Tashkent. He suggested expanding markets by adding levels and creating additional areas in the Yunusabad district through reconstruction into 3-4 story buildings. The President instructed the Cabinet of Ministers to inventory underutilized state properties and approve projects to generate high-income jobs in industry and services.

Furthermore, Mirziyoyev proposed transferring old buildings of eight state institutions on Amir Temur Avenue in the Yunusabad district to businesses for reconstruction into trade centers, offices, and hotels with underground parking. In previous statements, the President emphasized the transformation of markets into showcases of Uzbekistan and called for the development of modern market complexes reflecting the national culture. Projects to revamp historical city markets into tourist attractions and establish new markets in Tashkent and other cities were also presented, including a program to improve 515 markets.

In February, the President addressed the issue of urban expansion without master plans, leading to increased infrastructure costs and decreased agricultural land. Mirziyoyev's initiatives aim to optimize space usage, boost economic sectors, and enhance the overall urban landscape of Uzbekistan.
