Uzbekistan President Identifies Untapped Opportunities in Capital

in Economy / Uzbekistan - by

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev highlighted numerous untapped opportunities in the capital city of Tashkent during a session with the city's council of deputies. These opportunities include the auctioning of 979 land plots and the allocation of 175 hectares of land to entrepreneurs for industrial and residential purposes.

One of the key areas of focus is the potential for job creation, with 98,000 vacant positions in enterprises and organizations in the capital. Additionally, the special industrial zone "Yangi Avlod" in the Yangihayat district has the potential to generate tens of thousands of new jobs.

President Mirziyoyev emphasized the need to learn from successful initiatives such as the transformation of the Yunusabad district. Significant developments in the district over the past seven years have attracted foreign investments, established new businesses, educational institutions, and housing, resulting in improved living standards.

However, the President acknowledged disparities in income levels and opportunities between different parts of Yunusabad, urging a more inclusive approach to economic development. He criticized the lack of analysis by economic organizations in addressing income disparities and proposed innovative financial instruments to uplift families.

Mirziyoyev called for a holistic approach to economic development in Tashkent, emphasizing the interconnectedness of different districts and the importance of facilitating communication between banks, large businesses, and local communities. He proposed lowering interest rates for entrepreneurs based on their employment of citizens, with government officials providing training for the unemployed.

Recognizing the scarcity of available land for projects in Yunusabad, the President suggested repurposing old government buildings on Amir Temur Avenue for commercial use. He also stressed the need for vertical expansion of existing infrastructure to boost industrial and commercial growth.

Mirziyoyev estimated the potential to attract $600 million in investments and create 35,000 high-paying jobs in Yunusabad, tasking government officials with developing projects to realize this potential. The newly appointed Mayor of Tashkent was entrusted with implementing best practices from global cities in various sectors to further enhance the capital's development.
