Demand for Cars in Uzbekistan Decreases for the Second Consecutive Month

According to the analysis by the Center for Economic Research and Reforms, car sales in Uzbekistan have been decreasing for the second month in a row. In March, almost 109 thousand vehicles were registered and re-registered with the State Road Safety Inspectorate, which is 5.8% lower than the previous month and 12.9% lower than in March 2023.

Sales of passenger cars decreased by 12.1% compared to February and by 12.9% compared to the previous March, totaling 96.5 thousand units. In the first quarter, a total of 334.3 thousand passenger cars were sold, showing a 3.2% decrease compared to the same period last year. The regions with the largest decline were Surkhandaryo, Fergana, and Navoi regions.

Primary market sales dropped by 16.7% to 24 thousand units in a month and showed a slight decrease of 0.2% annually. Out of this volume, 19.5 thousand sales were domestic cars, which experienced a 17.2% decrease in sales over the year. Demand for foreign cars decreased to 2300 units (13.7% monthly, 20% annually).

In the secondary market, 74.6 thousand cars were sold, which is 10.6% lower than in February and 16% lower than in March of the previous year. The electric car market began to stagnate, with only a 0.1% increase in activity in March, but a 2.4-fold increase annually. A total of 8000 electric cars were sold in the first quarter.
