In 2023, 56 foreign companies providing electronic services in Uzbekistan paid 69.8 billion soums in taxes, a 1.5-fold increase from 2022 (44.9 billion), as reported by the Uzbekistan Tax Committee. The number of foreign internet companies paying VAT in Uzbekistan grew from 40 to 56, with their revenue increasing to 635.1 billion soums, 1.8 times more than the previous year (348 billion soums).
The majority of tax revenues come from 10 companies, with Meta leading at 26.4 billion soums, followed by Google at 20.3 billion, Apple at 12.9 billion, and Amazon at 2.2 billion soums. Notably, Meta (Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp) provided electronic services worth 238.9 billion soums, indicating increased spending on advertising and promotion on social media platforms.
Amazon entered the Uzbek tax system for the first time in July last year, ranking 4th among internet companies in tax payments with 22.6 billion soums. More Uzbekistan residents are subscribing to the streaming service Netflix, doubling its revenue to 10.1 billion soums in a year. This growth reflects the increasing digital presence and economic contributions of foreign internet companies in Uzbekistan.
