The company "Navoiuran" is planning to attract technologies from China Nuclear Uranium (CNUC) for the development of shale-type uranium deposits, as reported by the enterprise's press service.
A delegation from CNUC has familiarized themselves with the development of several uranium deposits that are part of the resource base of "Navoiuran." During the meeting with Chinese specialists, discussions were held on the technologies for developing shale-type uranium mines and the prospects for cooperation. Technological samples from these deposits were selected for extracting uranium and rare earth metals from the mined uranium ore.
Since the early 2000s, Uzbekistan has been trying to attract foreign investors for the development of shale-type uranium deposits, which require significant investments due to the need to extract other metals from the ore. A significant portion of "Navoiuran's" resources includes sandstone-type uranium deposits, which are more accessible for development.
In July 2022, the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, approved the target indicators for uranium production, aiming to increase them to 7,100 tons by 2030 (twice as much as in 2022). According to the IAEA, Uzbekistan ranks seventh in the world in terms of uranium reserves and fifth in its production.
