Water Level in Toktogul Reservoir Starts to Rise After Reaching Record Low

in Economy / Kyrgyzstan - by

In the past two days, the water level in the Toktogul reservoir has begun to increase, according to data from JSC "Electric Stations". As of March 23, the water volume was at its lowest point in the past year, at 7 billion 192.2 million cubic meters. Within two days, the water level rose by 14.88 million cubic meters, reaching 7 billion 207.8 million cubic meters. This increase is due to water inflow exceeding outflow for the first time.

However, compared to the previous year, the water volume in Toktogul is 667.73 million cubic meters less. Currently, the water situation in the Toktogul reservoir is almost critical. Energy officials have already warned that if the situation persists, by April Toktogul could reach a "dead" volume, rendering the hydropower plant unable to generate electricity.
