Kyrgyzstan Plans to Implement Smart Meters and Renewable Energy Tariffs by 2024-2025

in Economy / Kyrgyzstan - by

During the XIII Atomexpo Forum, Deputy Minister of Energy Taalaibek Baigaziev announced the goal of installing smart meters for all consumers by 2024-2025. This initiative will be followed by the introduction of differentiated electricity tariffs starting next year, with corresponding regulatory frameworks already in preparation.

Moreover, regulatory changes are being introduced to accelerate the development of renewable energy sources. This is aimed at incentivizing investors to enter the sector. For instance, instead of annual indexation, monthly adjustments to tariffs for purchasing electricity from renewable sources are being considered.

It is worth noting that Kyrgyzstan plans to increase electricity tariffs for all consumer categories starting from May 1. These measures align with the broader strategy of modernizing the energy sector and promoting sustainable practices in the country.
