During a session of the Jogorku Kenesh, Prime Minister Akylbek Zaparov announced the successful completion of the heating season this year. He reported that as of October 1, 2023, the water volume in the Toktogul Reservoir was at 11.7 billion cubic meters, but has since decreased to 7.3 billion due to low water levels.
Zaparov highlighted that there were no issues with water freezing in the Mailuu-Suu basin this winter, unlike last year, thanks to the strict inspection of all boilers in 2023. Additionally, the second hydro unit of the Toktogul HPP was put into operation in December, increasing capacity by 60 megawatts.
The Prime Minister also shared plans for the reconstruction of the Bishkek CHP. He mentioned a meeting with a delegation from TVEA on April 4, where agreements were made to install two gas turbines for $150 million. A mini-CHP with a capacity of 550 megawatts will be built at the Selmash plant in Bishkek for $210 million (with Turkey as the investor). The CHP-2 will also undergo reconstruction at a cost of $100 million.
"Tasks have been set for preparations for the next heating season, and we have already begun the initial repair work," added Akylbek Zaparov, outlining the government's proactive approach to ensuring a reliable heating supply for the future.
