In the first quarter, the Mandatory Health Insurance Fund allocated 443.7 million som for the procurement of medicines and medical devices to ensure timely and quality medical care for patients. This information was shared by the agency's press service.

A total of 149 healthcare organizations operating under the "Single Payer" system received these funds, covering their medication procurement needs for the first quarter of 2024. The Fund emphasized the importance for healthcare organizations with financial and managerial autonomy to plan expenses and provide patients with necessary medications according to the List of Essential Medicines and Medical Devices under the State Guarantees Program.

Previously, Member of Parliament Dastan Bekeshev and evidence-based medicine expert, head of the Independent Medical Union Bermet Baryktabasova, raised concerns about drug shortages. Baryktabasova highlighted that medications are either unavailable or running out, with orders placed at a pharmaceutical company remaining unfulfilled since the beginning of the year.

In March 2023, the State Enterprise was established to improve the accessibility of medicines for the population, resulting in over 300 million som in savings from drug purchases. The Minister of Health stated that medications for the second quarter of this year are currently being procured, with a commitment to fulfill all orders from 290 healthcare organizations by April 15, ensuring 100% coverage.
