The Ministry of Economy and Commerce discussed the promotion of the pilot project "Kyrgyz Solar Station" with a capacity of 150 megawatts for presentation at the energy investment forum in Vienna. The Ministry's press service reported that the Deputy Minister Sanzhar Bolotov met with representatives of the International Finance Corporation (IFC).
The Deputy Minister expressed gratitude to the corporation team for their support in developing and promoting the project, highlighting the importance of IFC's involvement as a transaction advisor. IFC is assisting in the project's development, environmental assessments, and other preparatory work to attract international investors to Kyrgyzstan.
The project involves conducting a transparent and competitive tender to select a qualified private partner and lower the tariff for purchasing electricity from the state. The first stage of the competitive selection is nearing completion, with preparations underway for the project presentation at the Energy Investment Forum scheduled by the government in June 2024 in Vienna.
IFC informed that several major foreign companies from Europe, the Middle East, and China have already expressed interest in participating in the competition. The solar station project is planned to be implemented in the Naryn, Talas, and Batken regions, aiming to diversify the country's fuel and energy balance and increase the use of renewable energy to meet the growing domestic and regional demand.
