Energy Minister Explains Temporary Power Outages Due to Reconstruction

in Economy / Kyrgyzstan - by

During a briefing today, Energy Minister Taalaibek Ibraev addressed the inconvenience caused by power outages, stating that it is a necessary measure due to the ongoing reconstruction of units at the Toktogul and Uch-Kurgan hydroelectric power plants. Despite successfully navigating the autumn-winter heating season without any disruptions, the need for temporary outages has arisen to facilitate the reconstruction process.

According to Ibraev, an agreement with the contracting organization stipulates that one unit must be shut down for reconstruction every year on February 20. However, due to cold weather in February, the decision was made to postpone the shutdown until March 5 this year to ensure the work is completed by the next heating season deadline of November 1. Failure to meet this deadline would pose challenges for the following winter, making it difficult to ensure a smooth transition.
