Kyrgyzstan's Finance Minister Discusses Economic Growth and ADB Support in Tbilisi

In Tbilisi, Georgia, a meeting took place between the Minister of Finance of Kyrgyzstan, Almaz Baketaev, and the President of the Asian Development Bank, Masatsugu Asakawa. This information was reported by the Ministry of Finance press service.

Almaz Baketaev discussed the current economic situation in Kyrgyz Republic, attributing the growth to fiscalization and the administration of tax and customs procedures.

On May 7th, the Kyrgyz side plans to negotiate with the ADB to approve a $50 million budget support to continue the reforms that have been achieved. Additionally, the adoption and approval of an anti-corruption strategy are also on the agenda.

Almaz Baketaev also mentioned the planned signing of a $300 million agreement in 2024, which is seen as a positive indicator for the 30-year cooperation with the ADB. These funds are expected to be used for projects in housing construction, the construction of Kambarata-1 HPP, and climate change initiatives.

The Minister of Finance requested personal assistance from Masatsugu Asakawa in implementing a project for financing social housing, taking Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan as examples. He also asked for support in introducing new climate change initiatives, thereby opening up new funds for financing climate projects and the development of green economy.

Almaz Baketaev expressed gratitude to Masatsugu Asakawa for the invitation to the upcoming meeting of the Board of Governors and invited the President of the ADB and his team to the event commemorating the 30-year cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and the ADB, which will take place in May this year.
