Kyrgyzstan's Electricity Tariff Hike to Boost Budget by 3.5 Billion Soms

After the increase in electricity tariffs, the budget will receive 3.5 billion soms. This was announced by the Deputy Minister of Energy Taalaibek Baigaziev during a meeting of the parliamentary committee on budget, economic, and fiscal policy. The funds are intended for the development of energy networks and covering the deficit.

Baigaziev noted that in Kyrgyzstan, starting from May 1, electricity tariffs have increased by 11 tyiyns. He stated, "We calculated that after the tariff increase from May to April next year, the budget will receive 3.5 billion soms. Currently, the deficit in the energy sector amounts to 9.3 billion soms. The money will be used to cover this deficit and for further development."

It is worth mentioning that in the Kyrgyz Republic, starting from May 1, electricity tariffs for all end consumers were adjusted to the inflation rate for 2023, resulting in a 10.8% increase in the cost of electricity. As a result, the electricity tariff for the population consuming up to 700 kilowatt-hours is now 110.8 tyiyns, and for consumption exceeding 700 kilowatt-hours, it is 239.3 tyiyns.
