Kyrgyzstan Secures $80.2 Million Loan for Renewable Energy Development

The Ministry of Energy of Kyrgyzstan is taking an $80.2 million loan for the development of renewable energy. The Committee on Budget, Economic, and Fiscal Policy of the Jogorku Kenesh reviewed and approved the corresponding bill in the first reading.

Deputy Minister of Energy **Taalaybek Baygaziev** stated that the project "Development of Renewable Energy in the Kyrgyz Republic" involves attracting funds from the International Development Association amounting to $80.2 million. This includes $67.7 million as a loan from the IDA, $10 million as a loan from the Green Climate Fund (GCF), and $2.5 million as a GCF grant.

As part of the agreement, hydroelectric power stations will be rehabilitated and new HPPs will be built for $43.2 million. The funds will also be used for the development of renewable energy, modernization, and strengthening of the relevant infrastructure ($36.5 million). An amount of $1.5 million is allocated for institutional strengthening and support during the project implementation.
