Kyrgyzstan's State Debt Reaches $6.27 Billion in January 2024

Kyrgyzstan's total state debt, both external and internal, amounted to $6,270.5 million (560,081.34 million soms) by the end of January 2024, as reported by the Ministry of Finance.

Out of this total, $4,627.07 million (413,289.45 million soms) is classified as external debt, while $1,643.44 million (146,791.9 million soms) is categorized as internal debt.

As of January 2024, the state debt represented 44.5 percent of the revised GDP forecast.

A significant portion of the external debt, more than half at 53.6 percent, consists of multilateral loans to Kyrgyzstan amounting to $2,480.63 million. Additionally, the country owes $2,079.5 million (44.9 percent of the external debt) under bilateral concessional loans. Notably, 36.9 percent of the country's external debt is attributed to debt to the Export-Import Bank of China, which stood at $1,707.71 million by the end of January 2024.
