Kyrgyz Prime Minister Reveals Kumtor Mine Profits, Corruption Elimination Key

Kumtor mine has generated a profit of $300 million in 2.5 years. This was announced by the Prime Minister Akylbek Japarov the day before at a scientific-practical conference dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Ministry of Finance.

In his speech, the Prime Minister emphasized the role of effective reforms in managing state finances, thanks to digitalization, fiscalization, and new initiatives in tax and customs policies.

"State assets amounted to 310 billion soms in 2015, in 2020 - 420 billion soms, or increased by 1.5 times in five years. Currently, the state's assets amount to 824.2 billion soms and have doubled over the past three years," noted Japarov.

According to him, the elimination of corruption was a key factor in achieving these results, citing Kumtor as an example. Dividends from Kumtor over the past 27 years amounted to $100 million, while the profit over the past two and a half years alone reached $300 million. He stated that this indicates a new era in Kyrgyzstan's financial sector.
