in Economy / Kyrgyzstan - by

Members of the Jogorku Kenesh visited a tire restoration and recycling plant in Tokmok. The plant, opened in August 2023, is currently operating in a trial mode. The plant is a contribution by Kumtor Gold Company to environmental preservation in the country.

The facility, when fully operational, will be able to process up to 2 tons of tires per hour, restoring up to 2,000 large and 8,000 medium-sized tires annually. The plant will recycle tires used by various types of special equipment at the Kumtor mine.

The plant consists of two workshops. The first workshop, currently in trial mode, processes tires that cannot be restored into rubber crumbs of various fractions and high-alloy steel. The products from this workshop are used in making floor coverings for playgrounds, artificial football fields, car mats, textiles, and metalworking.

The second workshop, where large equipment tires will be restored, is currently undergoing equipment installation and commissioning works. This initiative not only tackles environmental issues but also contributes to the local economy and promotes sustainable practices in the region.
