According to the National Bank's website, Kyrgyzstan's gross international reserves reached $3.32 billion in February, the highest level in the history of the country's central bank. This surpasses previous records set in January 2024, September 2021, and December 2023.
Compared to January 2024, reserves grew by $10.33 million in February and by $87.347 million since the beginning of the year. In contrast to February last year, reserves increased by $778.3 million, or 30.5 percent.
The National Bank uses reserves to smooth out sharp fluctuations in the foreign exchange market. In 2023, the bank conducted 14 interventions, selling $655.72 million. In 2024, the National Bank of Kyrgyzstan carried out only two interventions, selling dollars worth $31.85 million.
