Uzbekistan Cracks Down on Vehicle Emissions in "Clean Air" Month

in Environment / Uzbekistan - by

Since April 10, Uzbekistan has been conducting the spring stage of the "Clean Air" month. During this time, 58822 vehicles, including passenger cars, trucks, and buses, have undergone environmental control, as reported by the press service of the Ministry of Ecology, Environment, and Climate Change.

Inspectors found that 518 vehicles were emitting harmful substances into the atmosphere above the norm. As a result, fines totaling 50.1 million soms were issued to 303 drivers. Additionally, the operation of 222 vehicles has been prohibited.

Overall, a total of 200,000 vehicles are planned to undergo environmental control during the month (until May 10). The second stage of control will take place from August 10 to September 10 (in Tashkent, from September 10 to October 10).

During the event, the amount of harmful gases emitted into the atmosphere by vehicles running on gasoline, diesel fuel, compressed, and liquefied gas is being checked at road patrol posts in all regions of Uzbekistan, on central streets of districts and cities using special equipment. Drivers of vehicles deemed environmentally unsound are prohibited from operating the vehicle until the issue is rectified.

In 2023, over 318,500 vehicles underwent environmental control. According to the Ministry of Ecology's estimates, this prevented the emission of over 209.2 tons of pollutants into the atmosphere.
