In Kyrgyzstan this year, the creation of specially protected natural areas in the Naryn, Osh, and Batken regions is planned. This was announced at a press conference by the head of the specially protected areas department of the biodiversity conservation and protected areas department of the Ministry of Ecology Azat Osmonov.

He noted that the department faces a major task of increasing the total area of specially protected areas to 10 percent. Currently, they occupy about 7.8 percent of the country's territory, including 10 reserves, 12 nature parks, and 64 reserves (botanical, zoological, forest, and others).

Azat Osmonov added that in 2023, a state natural monument was established in the Batken region — the Madigen Mountains. "These are colorful unique mountains that are not found everywhere in the world. By the government's decree, this territory has been given a special status as a specially protected area," he said.

Furthermore, in the Chatkal district, an eco-corridor for animal migration has been organized, connecting three reserves.
