The Uzbekistan national weightlifting team has achieved great success at the World Cup in weightlifting held in Thailand from March 31 to April 11. The team secured 3 gold and 1 bronze medals, as reported by the National Olympic Committee's press service.

In a competition featuring 466 athletes from 110 countries, the men's team claimed the fourth spot in the medal standings after North Korea (7-1-3), China (5-1-2), and Armenia (3-1-1).

All the medals were won by male athletes in the 109kg category. Olympic champion of Tokyo 2020, Akbar Djuraev, emerged as the absolute champion in this weight class, adding 3 gold medals to his country's tally. He lifted 189kg in the snatch, 227kg in the clean and jerk, and a total of 416kg.

Previously, Djuraev had become a world champion after victories at the World Cups in Tashkent in 2021 and Riyadh in 2023. "Gazeta.uz" had previously published a comprehensive interview with Djuraev's coach.

Sharofiddin Amriddinov secured a bronze medal in the snatch with a lift of 170kg. He lifted 208kg in the clean and jerk, totaling 378kg, but it was not enough to secure medals in those disciplines.

Tursunoy Jabborova, competing in the over 87kg category, was unable to complete the competition after lifting 119kg in the snatch.

The tournament serves as a qualification event for the 2024 Olympic Games and differs from the annual world championships. Akbar Djuraev and Rustam Jangabaev have secured spots, although the latter was temporarily disqualified for doping violations.
