Nodirbek Abdusattorov, a chess player from Uzbekistan, emerged as the winner of the TePe Sigeman & Co chess super tournament in Sweden.
The TePe Sigeman & Co tournament took place from April 27 to May 3 in the city of Malmo, Sweden. The tournament featured a strong lineup of participants, including last year's winner Peter Svidler, three-time Swedish champion and number one player in Sweden Nils Grandelius (2689), world number 5 Nodirbek Abdusattorov (2765), number 8 Arjun Erigaisi (2756), Vincent Keymer from Germany (2726), Anton Korobov from Ukraine (2651), women's world champion Ju Wenjun from China, and world under-20 champion Mark-Andria Maurizzi from France (2605).
The tournament followed a round-robin format with 8 participants competing in 7 rounds. The time control was set at 90 minutes for the first 40 moves, followed by 30 minutes until the end of the game, with an additional 30 seconds added per move starting from move one.
Heading into the final round, Nodirbek Abdusattorov was in fourth place, trailing the top three players by 0.5 points. The Uzbek player secured a decisive victory over Grandmaster Mark-Andria Maurizzi, while Svidler drew against Vincent Keymer, and Arjun Erigaisi settled for a draw with Grandmaster Nils Grandelius. Another leader, Anton Korobov, was eliminated from contention after losing in a drawn rook endgame to Ju Wenjun.
Abdusattorov's only loss in the tournament came at the hands of Anton Korobov. Following the main part of the tournament, Abdusattorov, Erigaisi, and Svidler ended up tied with 4.5 points, leading to a tiebreak where the Uzbek player emerged victorious. Erigaisi secured the second spot, while Svidler claimed the bronze medal.
Currently, Nodirbek Abdusattorov holds the fifth position in the International Chess Federation rankings with a rating of 2765.
