Uzbekistan U23 Team Starts Asian Championship with Victory

The Uzbekistan U23 national team kicked off the Asian Championship for footballers under 23 in Qatar with a 2-0 win against Malaysia. In the first match, Uzbekistan was awarded a penalty in the penalty area due to a foul against Ruslanbek Zhiyanov. Midfielder Jasur Jaloliddinov scored from the penalty spot in the 11th minute.

In the 83rd minute, Uzbekistan extended their lead with Ulugbek Khoshimov scoring after a successful interception by the team and an assist from Husain Norchaev.

Uzbekistan is placed in Group D alongside Malaysia, Kuwait, and Vietnam. The team's next matches will be against Kuwait on April 20th and Vietnam on April 23rd.

The Asian Cup for players under 23 is an international tournament held every two years by the Asian Football Confederation. The tournament serves as a qualifying event for the AFC teams for the 2024 Olympic Games in France. The top three teams will qualify for the Olympics, while the fourth-placed team will enter a playoff match. Sixteen teams are competing in the tournament, with Saudi Arabia being the current champions.
