Uzbekistan's Boxer Israel Madrimov Receives Hero's Welcome in Tashkent

Professional boxer from Uzbekistan, Israel Madrimov, who recently won the WBA World Championship title in the super welterweight division, has returned to Tashkent. He was warmly welcomed at the capital's airport on Thursday.

The welcoming ceremony was attended by the Secretary-General of the National Olympic Committee, Oibek Kasimov, the Chairman of the Uzbekistan Sports Veterans Council, Bahodir Makhsitov, the Deputy Chairman of the National Olympic Committee and the First Deputy Head of the Uzbekistan Boxing Federation, Saken Polatov, as well as athletes, fans, and the media.

Madrimov was presented with the keys to a Chevrolet Tahoe car with a note saying "A gift from the president." The National Olympic Committee confirmed this information to "Gazeta.uz." The current discounted value of the Tahoe is 1.039 billion Uzbekistani som. Madrimov secured the WBA title on March 8th in Saudi Arabia by defeating the previously undefeated Russian boxer Magomed Kurbanov.
