Belarus President Lukashenko and Kazakhstan Ambassador Discuss Strengthening Bilateral Relations

President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, met with the Ambassador of Kazakhstan, Erlan Bajjanov, to discuss the upcoming visit of Kazakhstan's President to Belarus. The meeting emphasized the importance of the official visit of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to Belarus in the third quarter of this year. Both leaders highlighted the need for advanced relations between Belarus and Kazakhstan.

The visit of President Tokayev is expected to further enhance Kazakh-Belarusian economic cooperation, increase mutual trade, industrial cooperation, and the number of joint ventures and investment projects. President Lukashenko expressed confidence in the significant potential for cooperation between the two friendly countries, which are part of integration unions.

Lukashenko also praised Kazakhstan's active international role under Tokayev's leadership. In 2024, Kazakhstan will chair the Collective Security Treaty Organization and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. Belarus aims to become a full member of the SCO at the summit in Astana in July this year.

The Belarusian President acknowledged the impact of sanctions on international trade, including Belarus-Kazakhstan relations. He assured that Belarus is ready to explore cooperation directions that will not pose problems for Kazakhstan. Ambassador Bajjanov highlighted the high level of technological development in Belarusian industries and the interest of Belarusian companies in expanding cooperation with Kazakh partners.

The discussion included the potential for joint investment projects, with the Ambassador proposing the idea of creating a joint fund for industrial cooperation. Both countries will commemorate the 80th anniversary of Belarus' liberation from the German fascists in 2024 and the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory in the following year, underscoring the shared history that unites the peoples of Kazakhstan and Belarus.

President Tokayev's recent visit to Russia and participation in the "Games of the Future" international tournament in Kazan were also mentioned, where he met with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
