Efficient Coordination and Preparedness in Response to Earthquake in Almaty, Kazakhstan

in Politics / Kazakhstan - by

During a government meeting on March 5, 2024, Kazakhstan's Minister of Emergency Situations, Chingis Arinov, addressed the recent earthquake in Almaty. The Ministry successfully coordinated actions to inform the population and prevent panic by utilizing various communication systems and establishing reception points for citizens.

As of now, there have been no reports of building collapses, but inspections are ongoing. Helicopters are being used for aerial surveys in high-risk areas, while law enforcement agencies are ensuring public order. All essential services are operating normally. Minister Arinov emphasized that earthquakes, like any natural disaster, cannot be predicted in advance.

The Ministry is actively working on prevention and citizen preparedness. An operational information group has been educating the public on earthquake response since February 20, resulting in reduced panic among the population. Minister Arinov noted that the overall situation in the regions is stable.

Previously, Almaty's mayor, Erbolat Dosaev, introduced a new alert system to promptly notify residents in case of emergencies.
