Kazakh Prime Minister strengthens cooperation with Qatar during official visit

On March 20, 2024, the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, Olzhas Bektenov, paid a working visit to the State of Qatar. According to the press service of the Kazakh government, in Doha, Olzhas Bektenov was received by the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. During the meeting, it was noted that Kazakh-Qatari relations are strengthening across all areas of cooperation.

The talks between President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani in February of the current year confirmed the mutual desire of the two countries to elevate their cooperation to a new strategic level.

During the visit, Olzhas Bektenov held negotiations with the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani. The discussions focused on the implementation of agreements reached by the leaders of the two countries, as well as facilitating the timely realization of major investment projects in energy and agriculture sectors.

Olzhas Bektenov emphasized that Qatar is an important economic partner for Kazakhstan in the Arab world, with agreements reached during the visit paving the way for a significant boost in investment cooperation.

The Prime Minister expressed Kazakhstan's readiness to become a partner in supplying halal and organic agricultural products to the Qatari market. Currently, Kazakh enterprises are cooperating with Qatari companies on projects in the agricultural sector.

The parties also discussed cooperation in culture, education, civil aviation, and tourism. An agreement was signed between the governments of Kazakhstan and Qatar to establish a long-term strategic partnership for the development of projects in priority sectors.

Some of the largest investment projects include the construction of gas processing plants, gas pipelines, power stations, and plants for deep processing of wheat, peas, and milk. The heads of government highlighted the significance of the agreement for further comprehensive and mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries.
