Kazakh Energy Minister Addresses Concerns Over Oil Transportation Risks

in Politics / Kazakhstan - by

During a press conference at the government on March 26, Kazakh Energy Minister Almasadam Satkaliev addressed concerns regarding the transportation of Kazakh oil due to threats within the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) system. Journalists noted that the US administration expressed concerns for the first time about a possible threat to the CPC system, through which over 80% of Kazakhstan's oil is exported. According to reports from the Financial Times, Washington called on Kyiv to cease attacks on Russia's energy infrastructure. Media representatives also recalled that Moscow temporarily halted CPC operations in 2022.

The shutdown of the CPC was attributed to weather conditions and the need for scheduled maintenance. Significant work has been done by shareholders and company management to expand capacities, allowing for the transportation of over 85 million tons. Contracts with oil owners, leading global companies, have been signed for this pipeline. Satkaliev emphasized that international consumers, including Europeans, are primarily interested in the stable operation of the pipeline.

The Minister highlighted ongoing communication with European embassies and colleagues from the Russian Federation to ensure the pipeline's stable operation. Diplomatic consultations are also taking place with Ukrainian counterparts. On November 27, 2023, it was reported that due to stormy winds and high waves in the Novorossiysk seaport, the Caspian Pipeline Consortium suspended the shipment of Kazakh oil destined for export through the marine terminal.
