During a government press conference, Energy Minister Almasadam Satkaliev discussed Kazakhstan's potential shift from Russian energy to Turkmenistan. He highlighted ongoing consultations with Central Asian countries for energy exchanges. Turkmenistan offers electricity exports, with current deliveries to Kyrgyzstan. Kazakhstan is open to considering Turkmen proposals for gas and electricity, prioritizing consumer interests.
While gas pricing remains undisclosed, Kazakh authorities are prepared to assess offers from a commercial perspective. In the absence of official offers, KazMunayGaz and KEGOC are tasked with evaluating potential agreements. Kazakhstan currently meets domestic energy needs but remains open to attractive proposals to safeguard consumer interests. In the past, Kazakhstan planned to import Russian gas during market shortages. Minister Satkaliev also addressed the unprofitability of Kazakhstan's liquefied petroleum gas sector, citing operational challenges and insufficient investments in upgrades.
