The Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, Olzhas Bektenov, reviewed reports on flood response efforts from government officials, including the First Deputy Prime Minister, Roman Sklyar, and the Minister of Emergency Situations, Chingis Arinov. The meeting, held in a working format, aimed to assess the situation in regions affected by rapid snowmelt, ice melting, and ongoing flood prevention work.
According to a statement from the Prime Minister's press service on March 27, 2024, the Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES) and regional authorities were instructed to continue flood prevention efforts and provide daily updates on the situation in the country. The MES reported that a total of 2500 personnel, around 700 pieces of equipment, and over 290 water pumping and swimming facilities are involved in flood prevention activities.
Additionally, national and regional emergency response headquarters are operational in the capital and 11 regions, including Astana, Almaty Region, Akmola Region, Aktobe Region, West Kazakhstan Region, East Kazakhstan Region, North Kazakhstan Region, Kostanay Region, Karaganda Region, Pavlodar Region, Abai Region, and Ulytau Region.
Earlier incidents included the flooding of an airport in Aktobe, the collapse of a bridge in Zhem city in Aktobe Region, and the inundation of a national highway in West Kazakhstan Region.
