Kazakhstan Plans to Tighten Rules for Moped and Scooter Riders

in Politics / Kazakhstan - by

Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Igor Lepeha revealed plans to tighten regulations on moped and scooter riders in Kazakhstan. The Ministry is working on a new set of amendments that will classify all mopeds as vehicles, requiring riders to have a category "A1" driver's license starting at the age of 16.

These vehicles will need to be registered, unlike the current situation where riders face minimal accountability. Additionally, local authorities will have the power to regulate scooter activities, including setting rules on where and when they can be used. The amendments, effective since August 30, 2023, also specify speed limits for electric scooters on roads and pedestrian walkways.
