Kazakh President Tokayev Meets with Former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon

On March 28, 2024, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met with the 8th Secretary-General of the United Nations, Chairman of the Boao Asian Forum, and President of the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), Ban Ki-moon.

During the meeting, Tokayev expressed his gratitude to Ban Ki-moon for inviting him to participate in the Boao Asian Forum (BAF) and acknowledged his significant contributions to the global community as the UN Secretary-General.

Tokayev praised Ban Ki-moon, stating, "From my point of view, you have been one of the best Secretaries-General in the history of the United Nations. It was a pleasure and an honor for me to work in the UN under your leadership for two and a half years."

In turn, Ban Ki-moon highlighted Tokayev's substantial contribution to international cooperation, emphasizing Kazakhstan's role as a vital bridge between the East and the West.

The two leaders also discussed the international agenda, including the UN's role in effectively addressing global challenges. President Tokayev shared Kazakhstan's international initiatives, such as the upcoming One Water Summit planned in collaboration with France during the 79th session of the General Assembly and the Regional Climate Summit to be held in Astana in 2026.

Moreover, Tokayev invited Ban Ki-moon to participate as one of the key speakers at the upcoming Astana International Forum. On the morning of March 28, 2024, Tokayev arrived in China, where he was welcomed by the Chairman of the BAF Board of Directors, Ban Ki-moon, and the Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China, Zhao Leczi.
