Kassym-Jomart Tokayev continues to hold important meetings in China. This time, the President of Kazakhstan met with the Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Zhang Ming. According to Akorda, the interlocutors exchanged views on further improving the work of the SCO. The President emphasized the upcoming SCO summit in Astana, focusing on "Strengthening Multilateral Dialogue – Striving for Sustainable Peace and Development." Tokayev expressed the belief in the importance of working closely together for the success of the summit, given the current geopolitical situation. All the heads of state who are members of the organization are expected to participate in this summit, and Kazakhstan, as the host country, will strive to make the summit successful.
Zhang Ming also acknowledged Kazakhstan's significant contribution to the organization's development. He highly appreciated Kazakhstan's efforts as the chairing country and the special attention President Tokayev pays to improving the SCO's activities. Zhang Ming stated that they expect the summit in Astana to be very successful. Tokayev highlighted Kazakhstan's view of the SCO as an effective mechanism to stimulate regional security processes, trade and economic cooperation, and cultural and humanitarian exchanges.
In conclusion, the Kazakh leader emphasized the importance of carefully working on the content of the summit's outcome documents, taking into account the views and positions of all member states of the organization. Earlier, Tokayev also met with Ban Ki-moon, naming him one of the best UN Secretaries-General. Additionally, the head of Kazakhstan held a meeting with the Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) Zhao Leji.
