Former Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Alihan Smailov Appointed as Head of Supreme Audit Institution

On April 1, 2024, former Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, Alihan Smailov, was appointed to a new position as the head of the Supreme Audit Institution. The following day, on April 2, Smailov was received by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

According to information posted on the Akorda website, it was noted that during the meeting, they discussed matters related to further enhancing the effectiveness of the state audit system and financial control.

President Tokayev emphasized the importance of the Supreme Audit Institution in ensuring strict control over the efficient and rational use of budgetary funds and state assets at both the national and local levels.

Smailov shared his vision for the future development of the state audit system and presented the department's plans for the current year.

At the conclusion of the meeting, President Tokayev expressed confidence that Alihan Smailov's experience and professionalism would qualitatively fulfill all the set tasks.

Previously, Natalya Godunova held the position of the Chairperson of the Supreme Audit Institution. The decree for her dismissal was signed by Tokayev on April 1, 2024.
