On April 3, 2024, the press service of the Senate of the Parliament of Kazakhstan announced the passing of the well-known statesman and public figure Omirbek Baigeldi. Baigeldi led the upper chamber of the parliament from 1996 to 1999. Born in 1939 in the village of Kzyl-October in the Jambyl region of the Kazakh SSR, Baigeldi began his career as a collective farm worker in the Jambyl region.
During the 1990s, he held various significant positions, including Chairman of the Jambyl Regional Executive Committee, Head of the Jambyl Regional Administration, and Advisor to the President of Kazakhstan. Baigeldi served as a Senator in the first, second, third, and fourth convocations, dedicating over 16 years to the Senate.
President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, in October 2023, recognized Omirbek Baigeldi as one of the individuals whose names should hold honorable places in the chronicles of Kazakhstan.
