Kazakhstan to Demolish Buildings Around Airports for Flight Safety

in Politics / Kazakhstan - by

Vice Minister of Transport Talgat Lastayev has announced plans to demolish structures near airports in order to enhance flight safety. A special commission will evaluate over 100,000 objects in various regions, with a particular focus on Almaty, Shymkent, and Aktobe.

Any buildings deemed hazardous will be relocated, giving priority to their height and proximity to runways. This initiative stems from discussions held in January 2024, which stressed the necessity of removing constructions in airport vicinity. Lastayev has stressed the significance of averting accidents like the 2019 Bek Air crash in Almaty, highlighting the government's dedication to ensuring aviation safety.
