On April 3, 2024, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met with the Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission, Bakytzhan Sagintayev. During the meeting, Tokayev congratulated Sagintayev on his appointment as the chairman of the EEC board.
The President also listened to a report on the priority areas of the EEC's work, the prospects for further development, and the state of Kazakhstan's interaction with the EEC. The meeting also discussed the development of the Action Plan for the implementation of the "Eurasian Economic Path" Declaration until 2030 and 2045, as well as the preparation for the anniversary session of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council in May 2024 in Moscow.
Sagintayev previously served as the akim (mayor) of Almaty from June 28, 2019, to January 31, 2022. He assumed the position of the new chairman of the EEC board on February 1, 2024.
