Kazakhstani political analyst Anton Morozov revealed that Konstantin Syroezhkin, accused of state treason, has been released. Morozov shared the news on Facebook, stating that Professor Syroezhkin has been released on parole after spending five years in prison.
In May 2019, Syroezhkin, a prominent sinologist and professor, was detained on suspicion of state treason. In October 2019, he was sentenced to 10 years in prison with the possibility of deportation upon completion of his sentence.
Syroezhkin had been a key researcher at the Kazakhstan Institute for Strategic Studies under the President since 2006 and had previously worked at various research institutions. He is known for his contributions to academic and literary works.
