On April 5, 2024, a meeting was held in the Aktobe region under the chairmanship of Kazakhstan's Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov to coordinate flood response efforts. The country is facing a complex flooding situation with a state of emergency declared in nine regions. Over 19,000 people have been evacuated from flood-affected areas.

The meeting discussed the weather forecast indicating precipitation and a sharp rise in temperatures, intensifying snowmelt and water reservoir levels. Measures are being strengthened in flood-prone regions, with resources prepared by the Ministry of Emergency Situations.

The Finance Minister reported on providing relief to individuals and small businesses affected by the floods, including loan payment deferrals and tax deadline extensions. The business community expressed readiness to support infrastructure restoration efforts.

Prime Minister Bektenov thanked construction and road companies for promptly providing equipment and materials to combat the floods. Emphasis was placed on ensuring the quality of housing and infrastructure restoration.

Efforts to assist farmers and livestock owners were highlighted, with measures taken to safeguard livestock and address damages. Assistance will be provided to farmers in the form of payment deferrals without penalties.

Regions that had taken preventive measures experienced less severe flood consequences. Instructions were given to take preventive measures in all populated areas to avoid future disasters. Reports from local authorities will be regularly reviewed by the government.

Prime Minister Bektenov visited a situation center in the region, which has received over 15,000 calls since the start of flood response operations. The center operates round-the-clock, coordinating with emergency services.

The Prime Minister had previously inspected the flood situation in the Aktobe region and instructed the swift evacuation of residents from high-risk areas. The government continues to monitor and respond to the flooding crisis across Kazakhstan in spring 2024.
