During the negotiations on April 5th, the presidents of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan focused on ensuring stability and security in the Central Asian region. According to Akorda, Kasym-Jomart Tokayev and Shavkat Mirziyoyev discussed the preparations for the upcoming 6th Consultative Meeting of the Heads of Central Asian States, as well as the prospects for cooperation within the C5+ format.
In the context of strengthening cooperation in the region, the leaders welcomed initiatives such as the establishment of a joint venture between the railway administrations of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, providing mutual access to freight terminals at the Kazakh-Chinese border and in Uzbekistan for organizing cargo transportation along the China-Kazakhstan-Uzbekistan route. This project is expected to boost bilateral trade, increase the volume of goods transportation, and create favorable conditions for expanding cargo shipments in the southern direction.
The joint venture will play a role in the development of the Trans-Afghan route. Kasym-Jomart Tokayev arrived in the Uzbek city of Urgench on a working visit on April 5, 2024.
