President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, in his televised address to the nation on April 6, instructed the government to release the state material reserve. "The government also needs to promptly develop an effective mechanism for compensating damages and explain it to all affected individuals. The amounts should be proportionate to the damage suffered," said the head of state.
Additionally, in his address, the president mentioned that the floods could possibly be the most significant in the last 80 years and outlined the measures being taken to minimize the damage.
