Severe Flooding Situation in North Kazakhstan Region: Thousands Evacuated

The press secretary of the Emergency Situations Department in North Kazakhstan Region, Evgeny Zhuravlev, announced at a briefing that the flood situation remains critically severe. The Sergei Reservoir is at 153% capacity, with water overflowing the dam by 2 meters 83 cm, decreasing by 20 cm daily.

The water level in the Esil River is rising, especially in Petropavlovsk. Currently, 1713 homes are flooded in the region, with 1115 surrounding areas affected. In Petropavlovsk's districts of Khromzavod and Podgora, 1050 homes are flooded, leading to the evacuation of 4552 people, including 957 children.

Overall, 7477 individuals have been evacuated in the region, with 1852 being children. The authorities are taking measures to address the situation, with ongoing aerial inspections and the operation of 132 hydro-technical facilities in the region.

The risk of a second flood wave is anticipated in three regions - North Kazakhstan, West Kazakhstan, and Atyrau. Meteorologists predict rainy weather with thunderstorms, fog, and strong winds across the country on April 15th.

The Ministry of Emergency Situations reported that over 108,000 people, including 38,706 children, have been evacuated nationwide, with 11,950 already returning home. Additionally, more than 9.4 million cubic meters of water have been pumped out, and significant relief efforts have been made.

The hotline has received 1714 calls, and 126 individuals have received emergency psychological support. The country is facing one of the most significant flood crises in the last 80 years, requiring extensive response and support for the affected population.
