Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan Presidents Strengthen Bilateral Relations

The presidents of Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan have issued a joint statement following bilateral negotiations and a meeting of the Supreme Interstate Council. President Tokayev highlighted the significance of the Kyrgyz president's visit, emphasizing the signing of a historic agreement deepening and expanding the alliance between the two countries.

The agreement opens up new opportunities for further development and cooperation, fully aligning with the interests of both nations and preserving their longstanding brotherly ties. President Tokayev expressed gratitude for the Kyrgyz president's significant contribution to strengthening the friendly relations between the countries.

During the discussions, both sides exchanged views on various bilateral cooperation matters, emphasizing the importance of strengthening trade and economic ties. They acknowledged the potential for a significant increase in mutual trade turnover and discussed opportunities in the agro-industrial sector.

The presidents agreed to fully utilize existing opportunities, enhance the work of the Intergovernmental Council and the Interregional Forum, and expedite the launch of the cross-border trade-logistics industrial complex. Furthermore, they discussed modernizing border posts with digital technologies, with completion expected by 2028.

President Tokayev also stressed the importance of coordinating cooperation in the water-energy sector and highlighted the countries' shared positions on international matters, focusing on deepening cooperation in Central Asia. Kyrgyz President Japarov expressed gratitude for the invitation to visit Kazakhstan and the hospitality extended to the Kyrgyz delegation.

The Kyrgyz President arrived in Nur-Sultan on April 18 for an official visit, which included a gala concert featuring artists from both countries. On April 19, a ceremonial reception was held at the Akorda presidential residence, followed by bilateral talks between the two presidents.
