Kazakhstan Ministry of Transport Reveals Budget for LRT Construction in 2024

The Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan has disclosed the amount allocated for the construction of the Light Rail Transit (LRT) project for the current year. Initially, it was reported that in 2023, 52.4 billion tenge were allocated from the national budget for the continuation of the LRT project. Various tasks have been completed, such as foundation works being 96% finished, pillar construction at 76%, and assembly of structures at 82%.

At the end of 2023, Minister of Transport Marat Karabayev mentioned during a government briefing that discussions for 2024 are underway to allocate approximately 45 billion tenge for the continuation of the project. To clarify the final amount, the editorial team reached out to the Ministry.

"In the current year, 28.4 billion tenge has been allocated for the project. These funds will be used for rail production, rolling stock, electrical equipment, station water supply equipment, drainage, fire safety, ventilation, air conditioning, and more," stated the Ministry of Transport in response to the inquiry.

On February 27, 2024, it was reported that the local government started procuring trains for the project. Subsequently, on April 22, 2024, it was announced that a section of Syganak Street in Astana will be partially closed until November due to construction work on the 112th LRT station.
