Minister of Industry and Construction has extended the ban on the export of waste and scrap of non-ferrous and ferrous metals from the territory of Kazakhstan for another six months by the order dated April 23, 2024.

Starting from May 5, the following items are prohibited for export from Kazakhstan for a period of six months:

- By all means of transport: copper, aluminum, lead waste and scrap, lead-acid battery waste and scrap, used lead-acid batteries;

- By road and sea transport: waste and scrap of black metals, ingots of black metals for remelting (pig iron ingots);

- By road and sea transport: used pipes, rails, elements of railway tracks, and rolling stock.

The order will come into effect on May 5, 2024.

These measures are being implemented to increase the workload of domestic enterprises experiencing a shortage of scrap and to combat the illegal circulation of scrap.

Currently, Kazakhstan has a six-month ban on the export of scrap and waste of black and non-ferrous metals, which was introduced on November 7, 2023.
